Lee Seung-jun, the head coach of the Korean 3×3 men’s national team, has addressed the controversy surrounding the performance improvement committee.
According to a press release, the Korea Basketball Association held its third 3×3 Performance Improvement Committee meeting on April 19 to evaluate the team’s performance at the 2024 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup.
Women’s National Team head coach Jeon Byung-joon said, “We did our best in a short period of time, including training in the players’ village and training in Japan, but we were unable to advance to the main draw due to injuries. We have seen the potential of the players’ development through training and competitions, so we can expect better results if we continue to prepare,” said Jeon, 온라인카지노 emphasizing the need for systematic team management.
The men’s team also fell short of expectations. Despite a favorable group draw, the men’s team failed to advance to the main draw after back-to-back shock losses to No. 61 Indonesia and No. 80 Sri Lanka.
“We trusted the new coach and gave him full control over player selection, so we were able to put together a team that focused on team play and defense, but we are sorry that our performance did not meet our expectations,” said Lee Seung-jun, head coach of the men’s national team.
He also explained the process of selecting certain players, which was recently criticized as unfair. “It is true that the player who was the subject of the controversy was in the same coaching academy. I admit that he didn’t perform as expected. He left the coaching academy when he took charge of the national team, so I was complacent, but I should have been more careful. We will pay close attention to prevent such controversies from recurring in the future.”
Shim Chan-koo, chairman of the 3×3 Performance Enhancement Committee, and other members of the committee agreed that the Asia Cup‘s failure was a wake-up call for a mid- to long-term plan to revitalize the poor domestic 3×3 league and bolster the lack of players.
They agreed that the domestic 3×3 league should be revitalized and prospective 3×3 professional players should be fostered intensively, and ordered the establishment of measures at the level of the Basketball Association.
