Barcelona is looking to bolster its defense without spending a fortune.
“Barcelona will sign both Jorginho (32, Arsenal) and Wilfred Ndidi (27, Leicester City) for free in this summer’s transfer window,” Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported on Aug. 8.
Barcelona have been disappointing this season. After 30 games in La Liga, they are in second place with 20 wins, seven draws, and three losses for 74 points.
Many have criticized the team’s inability to fill the void left by Sergio Busquets. Oriol Romeu, 32, was brought in to replace Busquets, who left the team last year, but he hasn’t been able to keep up his form this season.
Finding a new midfielder has become a challenge for Barcelona. If they want to challenge for the title again next season, they need to sign a defensive midfielder to partner with Frankie the Dragon and Pedri.
Barcelona’s eyes have turned to Jorginho, with reports suggesting that the club are very interested in signing him on a free transfer when his contract with Arsenal expires in June.
Jorginho is considered one of the best midfielders in Europe. He is a defensive midfielder in the style of a playmaker at the back, and is known for his reliable game coordination and accurate passing.
He’s also a proven performer. In 2021, he won the Champions League with Chelsea and the Euros with the Italian national team, finishing third in the Ballon d’Or awards.
This season has been no different. Jorginho joined Arsenal from Chelsea in January of last year and has shown no signs of rust this season with one goal and two assists in 31 games across all competitions.
Despite his consistent performances, his future at Arsenal is unclear. Jorginho has yet to receive a renewal offer from the Gunners despite his contract expiring in June.
Ndidi is also on Arsenal’s shortlist of potential signings. Ndidi joined Leicester in 2017 and 토토사이트 has scored four goals and provided six assists in 30 appearances this season, helping the Foxes in their promotion bid.
His future at Leicester is far from guaranteed. Ndidi’s contract with Leicester expires in June. The general consensus is that his future will depend on the results of this season.
A move to Barcelona is looking increasingly likely. “Ndidi can leave even if Leicester win promotion,” said Mundo Deportivo. If they don’t get promoted, he will definitely leave.”
Free agency is nothing new for Barcelona. Last summer, the cash-strapped club made some big additions to its squad, signing Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez on free agency.
