South Korean women’s table tennis standout Shin Yoo-bin (Korean Air) has won two doubles titles at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Rio de Janeiro 2023.

Shin Yubin and Jeon Jeon-hee (Mirae Asset Securities), ranked No. 1, defeated Choi Hyo-joo (Korea Horse Racing Association) and Kim Na-young (Posco International), ranked No. 40, 3-1 (9-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-7) in the women’s doubles final on the final day of the tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

It was the second title of the tournament for Shin, who shared the mixed doubles title with Lim Jong-hoon (Korea Exchange) the day before.

This is the second consecutive tournament where she has won two titles, following her last event in Lima where she won the women’s singles and women’s doubles.

A consistent performer in both singles and doubles, Shin has now won three double titles at the WTT this year. She also won the singles and women’s doubles at the Contender Lagos in June.

After winning the doubles silver medal with Jeon Ji-hee at the World Championships in Durban in May, her performance and confidence have improved significantly.

Choi Hyo-joo and Kim Na-young, who also lost to Shin Yubin and Jeon Ji-hee in the final of the Contender Lima, had to settle for runners-up honors for the second consecutive event.

Similarly, in the men’s doubles final, a matchup of Korean players, the 22nd-ranked pair of Lim Jong-hoon-Ahn Jae-hyun (Korea Exchange) defeated Lee Sang-soo-Dae-sung (5th-ranked-Samsung Life) 3-1 (11-7, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8) to share their second title of the year.

While Korean players swept all three doubles events, it was the opposite in singles.

In the women’s singles, Lee Eun-hye (71st-Korean Air) and Kim Na-young (76th) were the highest-ranked Korean players to reach the quarterfinals, while Cho Seung-min (38th-Samsung Life) and Jang Woo-jin (8th-Mirae Asset Securities) were both eliminated in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, 먹튀검증 the ‘strongest’ Chinese players were absent from the tournament.

Japan was also missing a number of top players.
