‘Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods (USA) has effectively finished the 2024 season in a bitter mood.
Woods missed the cut at the Open, the last major tournament of the season, held at Royal Troon Golf Club (par 71) in South Ayrshire, Scotland, UK on the 20th (Korean time).
Woods, who recorded a second round total of 14-over par 156, fell far short of the cut standard (6-over par).
The score of 156 in the first and second rounds was the first humiliating score in nine years since the 2015 US Open.
Woods now has four majors this year, missing the cut three times and finishing in last place once.
At the Masters last April, he completed 72 holes but recorded his worst score (16 over par, 304 strokes).
It’s been five years since he last attended a major tournament in 2019, but he always returns with regret.
Woods’ only appearance outside of a major tournament this year was the Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour in February, where he withdrew during the second round due to cold symptoms.
Accordingly, there are even discussions about retirement in some quarters.
Woods, who finished the tournament that day, expressed regret over his poor performance, but dismissed the possibility of retirement.
“It wasn’t great,” Woods said of the second round. “I struggled all day. I didn’t hit it well enough to make birdies and ended up making a lot of bogeys.”
He added, “I hope to do better next year than this year,” and “I hope to come to the major tournament in better health.”
Woods said he will not compete until the Hero World Challenge in December, adding that he wants to “get back in shape.” 토토사이트
