Choi Kyung-ju prepares for an exciting birthday party at the Korea Professional Golf (KPGA) Tour SK Telecom Open.
In the second round of the tournament held at the Pinx Golf Club East-West Course (par 71) in Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do on the 17th, Choi Gyeong-ju made 7 birdies without bogey and recorded 7 under par 64 strokes.
Choi Gyeong-ju, who holds the record for the most wins in this tournament (3 wins), hit a midterm total of 7 under par 135 strokes, turning around the score with the best score among players who started the game in the morning.
Choi Gyeong-ju, who had recorded even par despite the strong wind the previous day through skillful management, drastically reduced the number of strokes by hitting the pin with an accurate iron shot in the second round when the wind died down.
The ball that landed on the green did not exceed 2m from the hole, and birdies were achieved in all four par 3 holes.
Kyung-Joo Choi’s 7-under par 64 in the second round is his lowest score at Pinx Golf Club. Choi Kyung-joo’s previous lowest score in this tournament was 6 under par 65 on the last day of the 2022 tournament.
Choi Gyeong-ju said, “Before I started today’s game, I promised myself not to think about anything else and to just hit the putt line I first saw. I also hit the iron shot well, so my result was better than expected.”
He said that the putter grip he changed a year ago was also a big help.
Choi Gyeong-ju said, “I changed my putter grip to a thinner one a year ago, and as I got used to it, my confidence increased. As I became more confident in putting, the burden of chip shots was greatly reduced.”
Choi Gyeong-ju said, “If the second round is over and we get this level of results, everyone will think about winning,” and he smiled, adding, “My birthday is coming up this week, so please remember it.”
