Sergio Ramos is returning to his hometown team.
“Ramos has agreed to a short-term deal with Sevilla, where he spent his youth and senior seasons,” Spanish media outlet Fichajes reported on Thursday.
Ramos is one of the star players to come out of Sevilla’s youth system. He progressed through the age groups and won promotion to the first team in 2004, much to the delight of the club and its fans.
His stay with Sevilla didn’t last long. Real Madrid quickly snapped him up. Ramos’ future was bright when he donned the Real shirt in 2005.
At Real, he became one of the best defenders in the world. By 2021, he had made 671 appearances for Real, winning four Champions League titles and five La Liga titles.
He may have gotten older, but his class hasn’t. Last season, he made 45 appearances for PSG as a key defender, erasing the disappointment of a poor 21/22 season.
His stay with PSG didn’t last long. Ramos left PSG this summer and became a free agent, although a contract extension was initially discussed.
He has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. The departure of longtime Real teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema to Saudi Arabia made it even more likely.
Ramos had other ideas. Ramos wanted to continue his career in Europe, and reportedly rejected offers from 스포츠토토 both the United States and Saudi Arabia.
According to the report, Ramos agreed to a one-year contract with Sevilla with a one-year extension clause. The extension clause will reportedly be triggered if certain conditions are met.
Even the shirt number has been outlined. “When Ramos returns to Sevilla, he will wear the number four shirt he has worn for almost his entire career,” the outlet said.
