Kim-Kong duo wins title for second straight week

‘Kim Kong Duo’ Kim So-young and Gong Hee-yong lift the Australian Open title for the second consecutive week.
The world No. 3 women’s doubles team of Kim So-young and Gong Hee-yong defeated Liu Xiangxu and Tan Ning of China 2-0 (21-18 21-16) in the women’s doubles final at the 2023 Australian Open Badminton Championships on Saturday (June 6) in Melbourne, Australia.
Kim So-young-Gong Hee-yong won the women’s doubles final at the Japan Open on March 30, defeating world No. 1 Chen Qingchen-Zhi Aifan (CHN) 2-0 (21-17 21-14).
The pair won four gold medals this year, including the Korea Open, Thailand Open, Japan Open and Australia Open.
In the women’s singles, world No. 19 Kim Ga-eun lost 1-2 (22-20 16-21 8-21) in the final to world No. 12 Zhang Beiwen (USA).
After reaching the final, her best result of the year, Kim had to settle for runner-up.
The world No. 9 men’s doubles team of Seo Seung-jae and Kang Min-hyuk are set for the final against Yugo Kobayashi and Takuro Hoki (JPN).
Seo Seung-jae and Kang Min-hyuk will be looking for their first title in three months after winning the 고스톱 Malaysia Masters in May.
