Eight players, including Kia Tigers infielder Kim Do-young, who became the first player to hit a natural cycling hit in four at-bats, SSG Landers Drew Anderson, the “strikeout machine,” and KT Wiz pitcher Park Young-hyun, who shut the door on the back door with 11 shutouts in 11 games, have been nominated for the July Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO).
“Park Young-hyun, Anderson, NC Dinos Kyle Hart, Lotte Giants Charlie Barnes, KT Mel Rojas Jr. and Kim Do-young, Samsung Lions Kang Min-ho, and Hanwha Eagles Ahn Chi-hong have been selected as the nominees for the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League Monthly MVP for July,” the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced on July 2.
The final winners will be selected based on a combination of fan votes and votes from the Korea Baseball Writers Association press corps.
Fans can vote through the Shinhan Bank mobile application from 10 p.m. on July 2 to midnight on July 7.
The winner will receive a cash prize of KRW 2 million and the monthly MVP commemorative trophy.
In addition, a donation of KRW 2 million will be given to the winning Korean player’s home middle school in his/her name.
Kim batted .407 (4th) with 33 hits (tied for 2nd), seven home runs (tied for 2nd), 21 RBIs (tied for 2nd), 25 runs scored (1st), and a slugging percentage of 0.815 (2nd) in the month of July.
In a home game against NC at Gwangju KIA Champions Field on March 23, he became the first player in Korean professional baseball history to record a “natural cycling hit,” a single, double, triple, and home run in four at-bats.
He also became the youngest player to score 100 runs in a game.
Park Young-hyun pitched in 11 of KT’s 19 games in July, going 13⅔ innings without allowing a single earned run and recording eight saves.
SSG Anderson, who made his KBO debut in May as a substitute foreign player, went 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four appearances in July.
In three of those games – against the Lotte Giants on July 11, Kiwoom Heroes on July 19, and Doosan Bears on July 26 – he struck out 10 or more batters, becoming just the eighth pitcher in KBO history to record double-digit strikeouts in three consecutive games.
Hart posted a 0.55 ERA in all five quality starts (six innings or less) in July, while Barnes went 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA in four July starts.
Rojas batted .413 with four home runs and a .625 slugging percentage in July, while Minho Kang dazzled with a .408 batting average, 11 home runs and 26 RBIs.
Ahn Chi-hong hit .437 in the month. 메이저사이트
