Brian Hill (22-Tottenham Hotspur) looks set to finally get a chance to play after returning from injury. The 22-year-old, who was sidelined during the summer preseason after undergoing surgery, has reportedly impressed head coach Enze Postecoglou (58-Australia) in training and is expected to play a “key” role, rather than simply making short appearances.
“Hill looks set to play a ‘key’ role for Tottenham in the coming weeks after enduring a difficult spell,” the British publication Football Insider reported on Monday (Aug. 8), adding that the midfielder, who was expected to leave during last summer’s transfer window, has stayed on and is back in contention for a place in the squad.”
It’s fair to say that Hill’s career has taken a turn for the worse since joining Tottenham in the summer of 2021. In fact, he was highly touted in Spain at the time as one of the country’s brightest young talents, but he never got a chance to play. This is because he was pushed out of the starting lineup by stiff competition and was often overlooked by his predecessor, Antonio Conte (54-Italy), for tactical reasons.
Ultimately, not being given a chance during his prime, Hill was sent out on loan to Valencia in the January transfer window last year, having previously signed for ‘parent club‘ Sevilla in the January transfer window as well. As a result, he played just 31 games (12 starts) in his two seasons at Tottenham. His average playing time was just 34.4 minutes, and he only managed two assists. In effect, he became a “forgotten man.
Hill, however, was hopeful that the competition for places under Postecoglou would enter a new phase in the new season after Conte, who had largely shunned him midway through last season, was sacked for poor performance. A recurrence of a nagging groin injury in the summer pre-season saw him undergo surgery and land on the injury list, but he refused to give up.
And finally, Hill returned from his latest injury after dedicating himself to treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation, and impressed Postecoglou in training. As such, he is 스포츠토토 expected to regain his place in the team as he receives more playing time. He is even expected to play a “key” role. It”s a perfect example of the adage that opportunities come to those who don”t give up.
As Football Insider notes, “Hill hasn’t played a single game for Spurs since January. He has only recently returned to training after undergoing groin surgery in the summer pre-season,” adding, “He has impressed Postecoglou on the training ground and will play a ‘key’ role with a number of flankers out injured.”
